Founder Insight: What I’ve Learned Building a Service Business

Building a service business has taught me something simple:

𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

They want to know:
→ Will you understand their business?
→ Will you deliver consistently?
→ Will you take ownership when something goes wrong?
→ Can they trust your team without having to constantly follow up?

Over time, I’ve learned that growth is not only about winning new clients.

It is about 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲.

A few lessons I’ve learned along the way:

𝟭. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
One good client experience can create opportunities you never actively searched for.

𝟮. 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.
Processes matter, but the right people who take ownership make those processes work.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀.
Being transparent early is always better than explaining a problem later.

𝟰. 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
Building something sustainable takes time. Not every opportunity needs to be chased.

𝟱. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁.
The more you understand their challenges, the better you can become a true extension of their team.

At Target Mind, we are continuing to build with this mindset — focusing on 𝗥𝗣𝗢, 𝗞𝗣𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, while keeping one thing at the centre:

𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻.

Because as a founder, I believe the strongest growth comes when 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀.
